Lydford Castle is a medieval castle under the care of English Heritage. The earthworks of the Norman fort are owned by the National Trust and are also open to the public. During its lifetime, the castle has been used as a court and a prison.
The castle is reputedly haunted by the ghost of the infamous Judge Jeffreys. However, those expecting to see the form of the notorious hanging judge will have a shock - as he is said to appear in the form of a black pig! According to Coxe, he is kept company by Lady Howard of Okehampton Castle and she takes the guise of a Black Hound.

Lydford Gorge is maintained by the National Trust. It is a dramatic feature of the river at Lydford on the edge of the National Park; it is a 1.5-mile-long gorge which is the deepest in South West England.
Lydford Gorge is reputedly haunted by two ghosts. One is an old woman with a red kerchief on her head, who has been sighted at a place called Kitty's Steps. The second is a Woman in White. According to local legend, anyone who falls into the Lyd and sees the figure of the Woman in White with long flowing tresses standing in the waterfall will not drown.
