Devil's Bridge

Devils Bridge Falls

Devils Bridge Falls is a wonderful world famous tourist attraction that lies 12 miles from Aberystwyth. Since the 18th century, these unique waterfalls have attracted many thousands of visitors, including William Wordsworth who wrote about the "Torrent at the Devil's Bridge". However, the legend of Devil’s Bridge is as fascinating today as it ever has been. It is said that hundreds of years ago, at a time before any bridge existed at the location, a woman lost her cow but found it as she looked across the river. However, she could not get to it.

At that point none other than the Devil himself appeared and told her that he would construct a bridge on one condition - that the soul of the first to pass over it would be his. So the Devil built the bridge, but he underestimated the old lady. She threw a piece of bread across the bridge and her dog rushed over to eat it, then she followed. The Devil was left with nothing more than a soul of a dog to his credit!

Hafod Uchtryd

Hafod Uchtryd was noted as a grand house, which was sadly pulled down in 1958. It was haunted by a Bwgan, or by a poltergeist according to others. However, this has become another of “great lost houses of Wales”. A caravan park is located where the house once stood, but we have yet to hear of any haunted caravans...
