Braemar Castle

Braemar Castle

Braemar Castle was built in 1628. It was constructed by the Earls of Mar, one of the most powerful political families in 17th century Scotland.

It is a possession of the chief of Clan Farquharson and is leased to a local charitable foundation. It is open to the public.

The castle is purportedly haunted by at least two ghosts - a young woman with "wispy blonde hair" that appears to newlyweds who visit the castle, and that of a Scottish piper.
