This grave marks the spot of what officials claimed were the remains of a Highwayman shot dead by a guard on the London to Bath stagecoach. However, Gypsies believed that the man was a legitimate traveller mistakenly killed, and saw to it that flowers were placed there in his memory. Locals claim to have witnessed a phantom highwayman, wearing a cloak and tricorn hat, wandering the area.
