According to Matthews, a row of modern shops replaced what was once a site occupied by a Georgian House at 85 High Street. In 1812, the novelist Anna Porter observed whom she thought was her neighbour enter her house in a distressed state, only to leave moments later. Enquiries revealed that the neighbour has died at the time Porter observed the figure, which means that this occurrence could be classified as a Crisis Apparition.

Claremont House (pictured above) is a fine Palladian mansion built during the 1770’s by none other than Robert Clive (known more noteably as Clive of India).
The apparition of an elderly man wearing a “long dark overcoat or cloak” is seen in the grounds, most often in the vacinity of the lake.
The house is now a public school.

The ghost of an 18th Century servant girl who died in mysterious circumstances reputedly haunt the Inn. Audible phenomena include the rustling of a “heavy silk gown”. Poltergeist pheneoman was reported in the 19th Century which led to an exorcism which culminated in the entity being confined to a cupboard which was wedged shut with a Bible.
