Portsmouth, Hampshire, England

Camber Dock and Camber Quay

High Street

11, High Street was once called ‘The Greyhound’, a Public House that is still known locally as "The Spotted Dog". However, it is famous as the site of the murder of George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham, stabbed to death in 1628. His murderer, an army officer named John Felton, was apprehended and later hung for the crime. It is now a private residence, but a plaque on the wall outside commemorates the murder. It is said that the property is very haunted, although the author Coxe makes no reference as to the phenomena. Other sources state that there are apparitions and audible phenomena at the location.
