Mackworth Castle

Two apparitions and also a rather unusual visual phenomenon are said to appear in the area of the gatehouse. The first ghost is a man dressed in green, the second being an old lady wearing a white apron, who is stood bent over. Witnesses say that she simply smiles before fading away.

The strange visual phenomenon is a mist that moves through the gates on certain dates during the year. Frustratingly however, local authors Anthony and Felix do not give those dates.

“Fast and furious” horses hooves have been heard approaching the building.
