Kinder Scout

Kinder Scout is a moorland plateau and National Nature Reserve in the Dark Peak of the Derbyshire Peak District. Part of the moor, at 636 metres above sea level, is the highest point in the Peak District, the highest point in Derbyshire, and the highest point in the East Midlands.

Mermaid's Pool, a small pool below Kinder Downfall, is said to be inhabited by a mermaid who will grant immortality upon whoever sees her on Easter Eve. Another version describes her rather as a water spirit, and who bathes in the pool daily. Local lore says that no fish can live in the pool, and no animals will drink from it.

Another legend of Kinder Scout is that of the "Kinder Boggart" that wandered an area known as the Downfall.

At South Head Farm, the sounds of a "brutal murder" are sometimes heard, and a nearby meadow the site where a White Lady is occasionally seen.

Upper Booth

Edale was once a secluded spot, often unreachable in the winter due to the heavy snowfall. According to Sian Evans, the area was frequented by packs of wolves during the Middle Ages, which must have meant that those living there were of hardy stock.

There have been alleged sightings of a phantom black dog near Upper Booth, particularly in the area known as The Tips.

In the 1920's, newspapers reported that many sheep were killed in one night alone - the work of the mysterious, spectral hound?
