Penfound Manor

Penfound Manor is a one of the most ancient Cornish Houses, and its history can be dated back to the Saxons - reputed to be the oldest inhabited manor house in England. However, it is NOT OPEN to the public.

With an intriguing history and architectural features, it is only fitting that the building has a haunted heritage also. The ghosts of Civil War lovers Kate Penfound and John Trebarfoote, are said to re-enact the scene of their deaths – when they were killed by Kate's father. Appearances of a “white form” have been seen, and an abundance of strange noises heard.

Poundstock Church

Poundstock is where you will find the parish church of St. Winwaloc – and also the ghost of an early member of the Penfound family (see Penfound Manor above). The ghost of William Penfound haunts the church, following his brutal murder at the altar on 23rd December 1357 whilst he was helping as assistant curate.
